Scott Lightner Obituary, 51-Year-Old Man Died In A Fatal Car Accident

Scott Lightner Death, Obituary – Police have identified the man who was killed on January 26 in Bertrand Township when an SUV and truck collided. At the crossroads of US Highway 12 and Franklin Street in Buchanan Township this morning, a truck and a vehicle were involved in a head-on collision.

The driver of the SUV, 51-year-old Scott Lightner of Hammond, Indiana, has been identified. When they arrived, Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies found a semi tractor-trailer that was laying on its side in a ditch with a black Ford SUV pinned underneath the cab. Lightner had already gone when the cops found the automobile.

Yuriy Gural, the truck’s driver, was unharmed and is from River Grove, Illinois. The SUV reportedly overtook the semi-truck it was pursuing as it climbed a hill while traveling west on US-12, according to witnesses. The SUV lost control and went off the road to the left, nearly hitting a guardrail.

Before the driver of the SUV could regain control of it as it re-entered the road, a westbound semi-truck struck it head-on. Following the collision, the truck drove the SUV rearward, off the road, and down a steep slope, where it came to rest on top of the SUV.

Gural had just delivered a shipment of wood pallets from Niles, Illinois, to Des Plaines, Illinois, when the event occurred. Assisting the sheriff’s office on the scene were the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Crash Unit, Bertrand Twp Fire Department, Southwest Michigan Community Ambulance Service, Michigan State Police, and the Medical Examiner from Western Michigan School of Medicine in Kalamazoo. Wet, slick roads seem to have been the main factor in the collision. The accident is currently the subject of investigations.
