Lowell Root Obituary, 92-Year-Old Lowell Patrick Root of Waseca Has Died

Lowell Root Death, Obituary – LOWELL PATRICK ROOT, 92, of Waseca passed away at Whisper Creek Nursing Home in Janesville on February 3, 2023. He was born on March 17, 1930, in Waseca County, Minnesota, as the son of Enoch and Irene (O’Riley) Root.

He attended school in Waseca County. Lowell married Beverly Mittelsteadt on June 26, 1951, in Waseca’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He served in the Army’s 2nd Armor Division as a Corporal between 1953 and 1955. He spent 25 years as a custodian and maintenance worker for Herters and E.F.

Johnson Company in Waseca, AB Systems Construction in Rochester, and the Waseca Public School. He enjoyed playing cards with his family, dancing, riding snowmobiles made by Herters, pulling a horse-and-buggy in parades, and participating in drill team practice with the VFW.

He spent 65 years in the VFW Honor Guard, guarding military funerals. Lowell enjoyed remembering his birthday on St. Patrick’s Day and was pleased to share it with his grandmother Lillian O’Riley. He belonged to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waseca American Legion, Waseca Eagles Club, and Waseca VFW.

The children of Lowell who are still alive are Brad (Sherry) Root, Brenda (Jim) Byron, Brian Root (with fiancée Rose Kaiser), and Blaine Root. They all reside in Waseca. Nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren are also left behind by him.

His surviving siblings are Leona Wenzel, Lester (Minnie) Root, Leland Root, and Lyle (Sharon) Root, all of Waseca. Along with his wife Beverly, a little great-grandson named Isaac Flintrop, a sister named Leta Clemons, and a brother named Lyndel Root, Lowell also passed away in August 2003.

He was also survived by his parents, who died in the same month. On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, there will be a visitation at Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca’s Third Street Chapel.

On Thursday, there will be an hour of socializing prior to the church service. The Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart in Waseca will have a Mass of Christian Burial on February 9, 2023, at 10:00 AM. The final step is interment in Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
