Moya Johnson Obituary, Death – Prior to her passing, Moya Johnson, a councilwoman for Ward 3, had been battling pancreatic cancer for some years. The terrible news was announced by Amy Johnson, Johnson’s daughter, late this morning on her mother’s personal Facebook page. Johnson’s only kid is Amy.

The local woman spent more than 40 years working outside of council rooms in the healthcare sector, mostly as a nurse and a planner. In the latter months of her time, Johnson’s fellow council members made the decision to recognize her service by deciding to rename Mill Street Parkette in her honor.

After her departure, her husband Rick, three children, and grandchildren will continue her legacy. During this afternoon’s council meeting, which was conducted in the council chambers, Mayor Ann Lawlor, whose voice trembled as she reported her colleague’s death, said Johnson was “passionate about helping people.”

A picture of Johnson with a wide grin was next to Lawlor as she was speaking on the subject. Lawlor continued by describing Moya as an accomplished leader who was smart and perceptive. She engaged in a range of committees and projects while serving on the council.

The mayor listed a number of achievements, including the Town’s smoking ban, his involvement with the accessibility committee, and “bringing ambulance services to Acton.” After learning of Johnson’s passing on Monday, Councillor Clark Somerville shared his sorrow with the public via Facebook.

He said in the letter that she “cared deeply about the town and all of its residents and regularly pushed us on health and safety items.” She always had our best interests in mind.
