Thomas Whitaker Death, Obituary – On February 14, 2023, Thomas Whitaker, 76, passed away at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center. Mr. Whitaker called Somerset, Kentucky home.

Thomas Whitaker was born on November 21, 1946, in Somerset, Kentucky, to Orvis and Mildred Wright Whitaker, both of whom passed away before him. In the year 1964, he graduated from Shopville High School.

Thomas received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University before enlisting in the United States Navy and serving there in Vietnam. He spent a substantial length of time as a deacon at the Bethany Baptist Church.

He belonged to the church. He had a wide range of interests, such as farming, fishing, and gardening, and he loved life in general.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Hunt Whitaker, whom he married on October 6, 1967 in Somerset, Kentucky; a son named David (Misty) Whitaker; a brother named Jimmy (Judy) Whitaker; two grandchildren named Jacelyn Whitaker and Austin Ryan Whitaker; and a number of nieces and nephews.

His father Jimmy Whitaker, who passed away in 1967, came before him. He was named after his parents, Orvis and Mildred Whitaker, who died before he was born.

On the day of the funeral, Friday, February 17, 2023, the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home will be open from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM for visitations. The Reverends Will Brown and Kevin Bullock will preside at the funeral ceremony, which will follow the burial, on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

The Short Creek Cemetery will serve as the site of the burial. The Military Honors that will be given will be overseen by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard. The family has requested that sympathy gifts be provided in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society rather than flowers.
