Elmer Nesspor Obituary, Death – The Delaware State Police are looking into a deadly pedestrian accident that occurred on Wednesday night in the New Castle region. The accident involved a motor vehicle and involved a pedestrian.
It was reported by authorities that on February 15, 2023, at approximately 11:46 p.m., a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee was driving in the right lane of northbound New Castle Avenue (Route 9), just north of West Avenue. A New Castle man of forty years of age was strolling in the northern direction on the right shoulder of New Castle Avenue at the time. According to the authorities, as the vehicle got closer to the location of the pedestrian, the pedestrian went into the right lane of traffic heading northward, which put him squarely in the path of the Jeep. The pedestrian was struck by the leading edge of the Jeep.
At the scene of the accident, a male pedestrian in his forties was determined to be deceased. The identification of the victim will have to wait until the next of kin have been notified. According to police statements made on Thursday, the pedestrian did not cross the street at a crosswalk, was dressed in dark attire, and was not holding a light at the time of the crash.
Around three hours were spent clearing the site of a collision that occurred on New Castle Avenue between West Avenue and Hillview Drive before the traffic was reopened. During that time, the roadway was blocked.
