Menzies, 70, the devoted husband of Denise Goeltz-Menzies, passed away suddenly with his loved ones by his side.

Dennis Menzies, who was born in Baltimore to the late Robert and Margaret (Miller) Menzies, earned his high school diploma from Parkville in 1971. Dennis enrolled at Johns Hopkins University after high school, where he proudly represented the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays in lacrosse while obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and Geography.

Dennis pursued his study and earned a master’s degree in economics from George Washington University shortly after graduating in 1975. Although though Dennis had lived outside of Baltimore for more than 40 years, he was still at heart a Marylander. His daughters inherited his enthusiasm and affection for the Ravens, Orioles, Hopkins Blue Jays, and of course Maryland crabs.

The trip to St. Andrews in Scotland, which Dennis held close to his heart, was the culmination of several excursions Dennis planned with his golfing mates to Kiawah Island, Myrtle Beach, and other locations. In addition to enjoying a golfer’s paradise, Dennis had the chance to learn more about his Scottish ancestry in Scotland. The self-described “grill-master,” Dennis, loved having a great steak meal at the table with his wife and daughters.

Dennis also adored the beach, and he held unique memories of family trips on the OBX. He was happiest when he was in his recliner, enjoying a book and the waves. Dennis and Denise celebrated their union with loved ones by the beach on the Caribbean island of Anguilla in May 2004. While their relationship started on December 22, 1996, they got married in 2004. It was love at first sight for them because of how similar their names were. Dennis kept a picture of Denise in his wallet soon after their first date, and he has never taken it out since.
