Noel Stanley Obituary Tullamore, A veteran of peace support operations has died
Noel Stanley Obituary, Death – We regret to notify our members of the passing on February 17, 2023, of Post 9 member Sgt. Noel Stanley (Retd), formerly of the 6th Infantry Battalion and residing on O’Molloy Street in Tullamore, County Offaly. He served in the military and has experience in Lebanon, Cyprus, and the Congo.
From July and December of 1960, he served as a young Private with the 32nd Infantry Battalion, the first unit to go there. In 1 Platoon, A Company, 35 Infantry Battalion, he served his second tour of duty as a Bren-gunner, taking part in the battles of Jadotville in September 1961 and Elizabethville in December 1961. From July 1964 until January 1965, he was stationed in Cyprus with A Company, 3rd Infantry Group.
But at that time, W Company and CTC each sent one soldier to the Coy as reinforcement. E Company supplied the majority of Coy’s men at that time. From March to September of 1968, he was stationed with C Coy 10 Inf Gp during his second UNFICYP deployment. In 1978, he was given the duties of 84mm A/Tk Sec Comd, Wpns Pl, and C Coy 43 Inf Bn.
This particular unit was the Defense Force’s creative contingent that worked with UNIFIL. Margaret, his devoted wife of many years, passed away just before he did. Everyone who knew him will deeply mourn his passing, including his sisters Rose and Dympna, daughters Regina, Carol, and Elaine, sons Raymond, Padraig, and Noel, as well as sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandkids, and other family members and friends.
His residence will serve as his final resting place on February 18 from 1600 to 2000 and on Sunday from 1600 to 2000. The Church of the Assumption in Tullamore will hold a requiem ceremony for the dead on Monday at 1000. Following the funeral, interment will take place in the Clonminch Cemetery in Tullamore.
