Emery Grosland Obituary, Emery Grosland Has Passed Away At Age 93

Emery Grosland Obituary, Death – Emery Grosland passed away on February 15 at the age of 93 at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. Margaret (née Woodward), his wife of 70 years, his daughter Roberta (Paul Strangways) Grosland, and his three grandchildren Megan (Carlos) Ribeiro, Adrienne (Kevin) Innes, and Patrick (Paul) Strangways are all left behind (Meghan McKenna). His great-grandchildren, Devin Ribeiro and Leo Innes, are also still alive today.

His family included his parents Arne and Lillie, his siblings Olive Musser, Hazel Armstrong, Lyle Grosland, Walter Grosland, and Evelyn Handley, and a series of cherished Cairn terriers. Emery’s family had a farm not far from Holden, Alberta, where she was born. Since he was the youngest of Arne and Lily Grosland’s six children, the older ones naturally took special care of their younger sibling. He and the two farm dogs used to go long walks over the countryside when he was a kid.

He would never outgrow his undying affection for canines and the open road. Lucky for him, he lucked upon a job at the Royal Bank, where he could benefit from the frequent moves that suited his nomadic lifestyle. During his relocation to Lacombe, Alberta, he met Margaret Woodward, a young bank teller. Eleven months later, the couple tied the knot and relocated to Medicine Hat, the first of many subsequent relocations for them.

Emery’s career took an unexpected international turn when he covered the foreign exchange desk for a colleague who never returned after a two-week holiday. Roberta, Emery and Margaret’s firstborn, was born in New York, where the couple was residing at the time.
